Memorial Weekend 2023

 Memorial Weekend is one of the oldest Federal Holidays celebrated in the U.S.  For many it simply means a three-day weekend. For others, dating all the way back to the Civil War, it is a day to honor those who died serving in the military. We fall into the first group.  Three-day weekend here we come.  There was a light bulb moment realizing we have never devoted an entire ride to East Texas.  It has always been a part of some other ride.  The plan was pretty simple.  We would stick to the Texas FM roads and make our way up to Center Texas.  Seriously, there is a town called Center Texas.  (It is not in the center of Texas, but the center of East Texas I guess.) My first thought riding through East Texas, we just may not be religious enough to ride over here. Evidence that you are in the Bible Belt are everywhere.  There are some rather magnificent churches quite literally out in the middle of nowhere.

East Texas lived up to our expectations for the most part.  There are definitely nice areas that provide good scenery for motorcycle touring and good curvy roads to keep the rider engaged. And if you eat at the Mexican restaurant, take a photo for me will ya?
